The Great Escape
The Pamir Mountains, long regarded as ‘The Roof of the World’, is a region of astonishingly beautiful landscapes and home to a medley of cultures. Follow in the footsteps of ancient traders, pilgrims, and explorers across frozen mountain passes and timeless steppes. Discover a region largely isolated from life beyond; a land where each village speaks its own dialect and local traditions have remained unchanged for centuries.
Our grand adventure begins in Dushanbe or Osh before quickly leaving the modern world behind as we drive through remote stretches of the Himalaya. We will pass mountains described by Marco Polo, traverse ancient Wakhan corridors, behold the Hindu Kush, and spend nights in the yurts and homestays of tiny mountain villages.
Alpha expeditions will venture to this hidden and enchanting land for three expeditions during the summer of 2022. Colossal mountains, sweeping views, and fascinating cultures await. Join us on The Great Escape to experience one of life’s most thrilling adventures.

Accommodation & Meals:
In the main towns, at the beginning and end of your trip, you can expect to stay in the best accommodation each has to offer. Once we leave those cities behind, we will be staying with locals in far more authentic and traditional homesteads. In some cases we will be sleeping in yurts, where layers of thick blankets are laid down to form makeshift beds. Other times, we will sleep and eat at a local’s house.
We are able to accommodate many dietary restrictions, however certain types of food are not readily available as in your home country. As such, most food will be of the local variety; that’s part of the fun!
What to Expect:
During our ten day adventure through remote sections of the Himalaya’s captivating and rugged terrain, we will encounter rocky and uneven roads. Some are poorly paved, others not at all! The nature of this expedition is such that we will rarely meet other travelers along the way. Ample support in the form of water, snacks and lively conversation will be provided by your leader and local guide.
Your journey across remote sections of the Silk Road will be unlike any other travel experience. The people you meet and places you visit will last a lifetime. But, as wonderfully fulfilling as travel is in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, it's not always easy. These are developing nations. Its people, their culture, and everyday scenes are likely very different than what you would encounter at home. It is important to bring an open mind.
All that said, the country’s astounding beauty will leave you mesmerized. Join us for a truly exotic and unforgettable adventure.
